Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about 3D documentation, Gaussian splatting, virtual tours, and working with TAGart.

Quick Navigation

What is Gaussian splatting?

Gaussian splatting is a cutting-edge 3D reconstruction technique that creates photorealistic, interactive 3D models from photographs. Unlike traditional photogrammetry, Gaussian splats render instantly in web browsers and capture complex materials like glass, metal, and reflective surfaces with incredible accuracy. It's perfect for products, artifacts, and exterior building documentation where visual fidelity is critical.

How much does 3D product scanning cost?

Product scanning starts from £400 for single items, with e-commerce-ready packages (including web viewers and AR formats) ranging £500-800. Premium packages with 3D print-ready files, multiple format exports, and technical integration support range £750-1,200. Batch pricing is available for 5+ items. Museum artifact scanning and heritage virtual tours are quoted per project based on complexity, site access requirements, and deliverables needed.

Can you create virtual tours of listed buildings?

Yes, I specialise in heritage site documentation including Grade I and II listed buildings. Using non-invasive 360° photography and aerial Gaussian splatting with drones, I create comprehensive virtual tours that preserve architectural details while providing accessible digital experiences. All work complies with heritage regulations and requires no physical contact with historic surfaces or structures.

What's included in technical integration support?

Technical integration ensures your 3D models actually work on your website. Basic support (£250) includes setup instructions and email guidance for self-implementation. Standard setup (£750) includes full installation on your site, hosting configuration, and team training. Full integration (£2,000) provides custom development, CMS integration, performance optimisation, and 3 months of ongoing support. Most clients need standard setup.

Do you work outside of London?

Yes! While based in London, I work with clients across the UK for heritage sites, museum projects, and larger product documentation assignments. For product scanning, London and surrounding areas are most cost-effective. Heritage virtual tours and cultural projects are available nationwide with travel costs included in project quotes.

What equipment do you use?

I use professional full-frame DSLR cameras (50MP+), a DJI Mavic 2 Pro drone for aerial capture, and specialised turntable setups for product photography. Processing is done with Kiri Engine for AI-powered Gaussian splats and Agisoft Metashape Pro for traditional photogrammetry. All equipment is calibrated for sub-millimeter precision on object scanning.

How long does a project take?

Timeline varies by project complexity. Product scanning: 1-2 days capture + 3-5 days processing. Museum artifacts: 2-4 days on-site + 1-2 weeks processing. Heritage virtual tours: 3-7 days capture (weather dependent) + 2-4 weeks processing. Technical integration adds 1-2 weeks. Rush projects can be accommodated with advance notice.

What file formats do you deliver?

Standard deliverables include GLB (web), USDZ (Apple AR), SPLAT (Gaussian splat), PLY (point cloud), and STL/OBJ (3D print-ready). For products, we provide optimised models for web (2-5MB), AR viewers, 3D printing files with proper mesh repair, and high-resolution archives. Heritage projects include interactive viewers, 360° panoramas, and downloadable models. All deliverables are provided with documentation and hosting guidance.

Can I use the 3D models on my own website?

Absolutely! All models are delivered with full usage rights for your website, social media, and marketing materials. We provide embed code, hosting recommendations, and basic setup instructions. Technical integration support is available if you need help implementing the viewers on your site or want custom features like AR try-on or product configurators.

Do you offer photography and videography services?

Yes, in addition to 3D documentation, I offer professional photography and videography for weddings, events, and commercial projects. My background includes event photography, wedding coverage, and theatre production documentation. While 3D heritage and product work is my primary focus, I'm available for select photography projects in London and surrounding areas.

What's the difference between Gaussian splatting and photogrammetry?

Gaussian splatting is newer and renders faster in browsers with better material representation (reflections, glass, metal). Photogrammetry creates mesh-based models with more editability but requires more processing time. For products and exterior architecture, Gaussian splats often provide better visual results. For museum artifacts requiring measurements or interior spaces, traditional photogrammetry may be preferred. I assess each project to recommend the best technique.

How do I get started?

Contact me through the website with details about your project - what you want documented, intended use, and any specific requirements. I'll respond within 24 hours with questions, recommendations, and a detailed quote. For heritage sites, I can schedule a site visit to assess access and requirements. For products, I can advise on batch scanning for multiple items.
